We are located in Mission Viejo, CA.
A kitchen garden is typically as close to your house as possible and usually involves raised beds made of wood, stone, or metal. Kitchen gardens are typically small enough to reach into so you do not walk in them and include a mix of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs. Typically, you'll be growing and harvesting from a high-density kitchen garden year-round and regularly vs growing rows of crops directly in the ground for storing away for winter like a typical vegetable garden.
The great thing about a kitchen garden is that, after the initial infrastructure investment (beds, soil, irrigation, labor, compost, plants), you'll typically start saving money once you're producing and eating from your own kitchen garden!
We do not typically buy store-bought berries, beans, cucumbers, watermelon, greens, squash, tomatoes, peppers, sweet potatoes, and herbs in certain months of the year anymore because we produce enough in our own backyard!
The initial investment can vary greatly from hundreds to tens of thousands depending on size and scope of your garden, materials, and if you're doing the labor yourself or not. The great thing about kitchen gardens is that - like us - you can start small with just a single kitchen garden raised bed and add on when you're ready... or do it all at once!
YES! We love working with existing gardens too! The consultation will be very much the same though we will focus on working with the existing infrastructure and explore whether or not the soil or irrigation needs to be adjusted for optimal growth. You let us know what you need help with, and we will structure the consultation to your needs.
