I'm Katherine, Owner and Operator of BusyBee Consultant LLC! I have two major passions in this world: dogs and gardening. I have worked with (and for) dogs almost all my life, and I've been gardening as a hobby for a long time, aswell. One of the most important lessons my canine friends have taught me over the years is patience. Through those lessons, I have developed a deep appreciation for the challenges that require a great deal of patience--like gardening!
Like most newcomers to the gardening scene, I believed that gardening was going to be the easiest hobby I could pick up. Oh, boy, was I wrong! Back in the very beginning, I never planted flowers because I saw that as a waste of space. I thought, "If I'm not harvesting food from it, why use my resources to grow it?" So I packed my garden with only my favorite fruits, veggies, and herbs. Little did I know, without those flowers in or around my garden I was essentially denying my garden its' best possible chance for a beautiful, bountiful harvest! On top of the denial, I was inadvertently inviting insects that I definitely didn't want in my garden. With practice and countless hours of research, a few seasons into my gardening journey I found myself deeply passionate about the beneficial wildlife that we can invite to our garden as well as the symbiotic relationships between a wide variety of different plants. Each season my garden got better and better! I learned I could grow my own natural repellent for aphids, hornworms, and many other garden-ruining pests! I also learned that without our little bee buddies, our gardens will not reach their potential. My first few years of gardening I lacked bees, but today I am happy to admit I have more bees surrounding my garden than ever before. One major pro to a garden full of bees: I never have to hand pollinate zucchini ever again!
My biggest goal these days is to help others achieve thriving gardens. I had to learn everything by trial and error. That took me years to learn, lots of practice and plenty of patience. I absolutely love helping others and meeting new people who also love gardening, and nothing is better to me than helping take your biggest concerns in the gardening world and turning them into your biggest strengths. Gardening is a little like dogs: it can be a challenge, test your patience, and change your life. I'm so excited to start this journey together with you!
